Capital Productivity Index

Awarded Index Leaders

A Tier is the top band of the Capital Productivity Index. It marks facilities whose capital base is genuinely earning its return: buildings and equipment producing operating profit, a plant age that has not been allowed to drift, and reinvestment keeping pace with depreciation.

How the Index works
01

Built from your own filings. Every score comes from a facility’s own CMS Hospital Cost Report filings. Nothing is estimated, and nothing is modeled from a peer group.

02

Four factors. Capital productivity, operating margin, average age of plant, and reinvestment pace measured as capital spending against depreciation.

03

Fixed thresholds. Each factor is scored against a fixed threshold rather than a shifting peer set, so a grade means the same thing from one year to the next.

04

A score and a grade. Each facility receives a score from 0 to 100 and a letter grade from A to F. A Tier is the top band.
